I wanna start by saying this film has a really great cast: Mark Wahlberg, Jimmi Simpson, Ray Liotta, William Fitchner, Kristen Wiig, James Franco, Mila Kunis, Nick Kroll. Such great talent all in one film really works well.

I originally watched this film not expecting much, some cheap laughs and a few cameos but I was pleasantly surprised. Steve and Tina are a married couple that have lost their spark. Between the kids and their two tiring jobs they try to squeeze in a “date night”. After seeing their friends split they decide to try harder and drive into the city for an extra special date night. They get confused for some other couple and find themselves in a whole heap of trouble. Running around the city into the small hours of the morning makes for a great comedy that takes you in all sorts of directions.

I loved the fact that the film keeps a nice fast pace throughout, meaning there’s plenty of laughs and action with very little downtime. The story flows between all this brilliantly, and you really feel a connection with the characters. There’s a great scene with a high speed car chase but with a very funny twist.

This film is a breath of fresh air and definitly worth a watch. Especially as the credits are followed by a nice gag reel. Steve Carell is a master of bloopers. :P

Date Night Trailer

Date Night Trailer

"Probably the best ninja movie ever made. - Tony Rayns, London Film Festival."

“Probably the best ninja movie ever made. - Tony Rayns, London Film Festival.”

- Kamui: The Lone Ninja

Kamui: The Lone Ninja

Last nights film: Kamui. It was awesome! It was a true epic tale. It’s the only way I can think to define it. It didn’t conform to the usual adventure film structure.

It started off as little low budget looking and I though “What have I let myself in for?” But before long I was sold! Kamui (Ken’ichi Matsuyama) is a ninja who dislikes the ninja code and has fled. All “Runaway Ninja” are hunted down and eventually killed, nobody escapes. He is washed up on the shore of a fishing village and meets up with Hanbei (Kaoru Kobayashi) who reminds me of Jackie Chan in his looks and mannerisms and his wife Sugaru (Koyuki) who is also a runaway ninja. Together they go out and fish and meet a crew of shark hunters, the legendary Watari! Adventure ensues and there’s tons of great action.

There is a great scene with a guy baiting a Great White shark with a live pig and then slicing it in three when it leaps from the water! What could be better than that? I also think that Ken’ichi Matsuyama is a great actor, after previously seeing him depict the iconic “L” from Death Note (Which is in need of a re-watch :P). He is very agile and fun to watch and has a very distant quality to his acting which is what makes him so perfect for the roles of L and Kamui: Lone Ninja.

This film is great because it has a bunch of classic ninja jutsus and weapons, a loveable cast and a whole heap of bodies.

Kamui Trailer

Kamui Trailer

Devil

I watched this film late last night. It’s by M. Night Shyamalan so I was expecting something alittle above average and that’s what I was greeted with.

It’s an interesting concept and played out well. I would call it more thriller than horror. I admit it was rather predictable which is unusual for me because I tend to not think ahead in films and just lay back and enjoy them but this just seemed too cliched.

I did like the crazy Latino guy spouting his folklore to everyone. Was nice to have an interesting tale instead of the same recycled crap these films tend to use over and over. It was also nice to see Jenny O’Hara pop up in yet another film/tv show. She seems to be everywhere! :P

I would of liked to have seen more blood or just more action but taking into account they were limited to an elevator for 3/4 of the film they did OK. I would recommend watching this if you have nothing better to do but don’t go out of your way expecting some awesome horror with a great Shyamalan twist. :/

Devil (2010) Trailer

Devil (2010) Trailer

"A show of blazing wit and originality - The Guardian"

“A show of blazing wit and originality - The Guardian”

- Arrested Development

Arrested Development

I recently got my hands on a copy of the second season of Arrested Development for £6!!!

I started watching this when it first came out and it’s such an oddball show. It truely is comedy gold and its so fresh and original. I figured it got cancelled like all the other awesome shows and never got further than season one on tv.

Years later I learnt that they have infact made three seasons of Arrested Development with a movie in negotiations and I have been missing out all this time. So almost 8 years later here I am watching the second season.

I really like how the charcters have fleshed out in the second season. Gob (Will Arnett) is a real charcter and I get great pleasure from seeing him mess up everything Michael (Jason Bateman) does. Buster (Tony Hale) is really venturing out into the world as well which is great to watch but I’m sort of gutted for him losing his hand. Pop-Pop is still such a badass but Jeffrey Tambor is a legend! I’m still not sure what planet Tobais (David Cross) is on but it’s funny to watch his attempts at rekindling his lost marrige.

All in all a great classic that I loved watching back to back for the past two nights. Now to get paid and hunt down season three!

Accidents are always funny :P

Accidents are always funny :P

Create your first post!

“Try writing about something you did today!”
